Manning Rural Referral Hospital is a public hospital serving the local communities of Taree, Forster, Tuncurry and surrounding districts which operates 160 beds including 20 Mental Health beds and provides a broad range of specialist services. Some of our services include general medical and surgical wards as well as general surgery, ophthalmology, urology, paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, dental, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, TOES, ECT and emergency. There is also a renal dialysis unit.

Hunter New England Mental Health are seeking a dynamic psychiatrist who wishes to pursue a career in a rural environment. The consultant Psychiatrist will be required to provide expert psychiatric care to the community of the Tablelands consisting of an 8 bed voluntary inpatient unit in Armidale (The Clarke Centre) as well as community clinics in Inverell, Glen Inness, Moree and Tenterfield.

The Visiting Medical Officer will usually work alongside another psychiatrist at Armidale in an integrated service for a 3 day per week (preferably consecutive) position for 6 months.

Applicants must have a medical degree registerable with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Tamworth Hospital seeks the expertise of a dedicated and enthusiastic Staff Specialist Geriatrician an/or Rehabilitation Physician to provide specialist Geriatric and Rehabilitation services. This position is also suitable for recently qualified Fellows as you will be able to develop a wide range of skills with a broad and interesting case-mix whilst working with an experienced Senior Rehabilitation Physician.

 

In this position you will provide:

  • clinical direction to the Aged Care and Rehabilitation clinical streams
  • Geriatric and Rehabilitation inpatient consultation services in acute and sub-acute facilities
  • Privately referred outpatient Geriatric and Rehabilitation consultancy service
  • Inpatient and outpatient Aged Care and Rehabilitation Assessments
  • Outreach services to the surrounding communities
  • Position is supported by a JMO as well as an AFRM Advanced Trainee.

Tamworth Hospital has 288 beds and is the major Rural Referral Hospital providing services to the north west of NSW. Tamworth Hospital provides high level medical and surgical services, has an on-site T-Basis unit, a free standing Rehabilitation Unit with 22 beds and comprehensive multidisciplinary team support. There are on-site specialist Brain Injury, Spinal and Stroke Unit and Amputee services. The Hospital also offers excellent JMO support, telehealth services and involvement in Royal Flying Doctor clinics. The Maitland Hospital is a 170 bed rural referral facility that serves the upper and lower Hunter region and the cities and towns of Maitland, Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Dungog and Raymond Terrace. Presentations have been growing for several years and now have an annual presentation of over 49,000 patients, of which 22% are admitted. About one third of all presentations are Paediatric and 2% are transferred to quaternary referral hospitals. The Emergency Department has a total of 24 treatment spaces; including 2 resuscitation beds and 5 fast track treatment spaces.

The Maitland Hospital Emergency Department has been accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). It is accredited for 12 months of advanced training and operates as part of the Hunter New England wide network that includes John Hunter Hospital, Calvary Mater Hospital and Tamworth Base Hospital. There is also an education special skills term whose main focus is the University of Newcastle medical students and Junior Medical Officers throughout our department.
