Scone maternity, the Millicent White Ward, is a small rural maternity unit with between eighty to one hundred births a year. Women are cared for throughout pregnancy and birthing with antenatal, labour and postnatal care being provided by a small group of midwives. It is a low risk unit with the capacity to perform emergency caesareans being covered by GP obstetricians and midwives.
About the role:
In this autonomous midwife role you will have the support of the other five midwives in the department in providing individualised care to mothers before, during and after birth. Opportunities available to work full or part time in a rural hospital for an experienced Midwife, with current birthing experience.
When workloads permit, assistance in the Emergency Department may be required on a needs basis. Training and support is given to the midwives to up skill in the emergency department – another string in your bow.
Midwifery skills are kept up to date with regular visits from the clusters Maternity Clinical Nurse Educator and, if applicable, up skilling at a tertiary facility. Midwives are supported to attend FONT and other mandatory education.
For a minimum of a two year commitment sponsorship may be offered to the right candidate.
You will be a registered midwife that loves being involved in the whole pregnancy and birthing experience, from antenatal appointments, to labour and post natal care. Working with a small group of five midwives you will build strong relationships with mothers and the team to provide a high quality of care.
With your passion of empowering women through the pregnancy and birthing process you will develop strong relationships with your patients and aid them with all the experience you bring – antenatal support and information, labour techniques in theory and practice, breast feeding and antenatal care. Your love of being a midwife and wanting to be involved in the entire process will drive you to become part of the community when you are at work and in your leisure.
