The Division of Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care seek a Rehabilitation Staff Specialist.

This position is to provide inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programmes to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of those persons with existing and newly acquired disabling medical conditions. They will also facilitate optimal utilisation of existing resources to enable timely discharge to the community. When requested by the Director of Rehabilitation, this position will include leading multidisciplinary team meetings and family conferences. The team is an established one and the environment supportive.

 

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Rehabilitation Division of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

 

The position will primarily be based at Port Kembla Hospital but will be required to work 8-12 hours per fortnight at the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital and across the District as required.

Visiting Medical Officer Geriatrician #430430

An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified Geriatrician to work within the Shoalhaven Hospital Group, based at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital. This will involve working with other specialists within the Division of Aged Care and Rehabilitation and Palliative Care in the Shoalhaven to provide consultant level care for inpatients with support of a dedicated junior staff team, outpatient consultation and community consultations. Inpatient care will occur at Shoalhaven Hospital and outpatient and consultations services will be provided to Shoalhaven and Milton Hospitals.

 

The Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital(SDMH) is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit that incorporates High Dependency and Coronary Care beds and also provides Emergency Department services. Shoalhaven Hospital boasts a newly renovated 11 bed Acute Geriatric Ward, with a highly supportive and functioning team.

This newly created position is a great opportunity to help develop the Palliative Care Services for the Shoalhaven region of ISLHD.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide a hospital consult service for in-patients at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital (SDMH) in Nowra.
  • To provide an in-reach service to the in-patient unit at David Berry Hospital, where the patients are admitted under the care of a GP VMO.
  • To participate in a fortnightly out-patient clinic at Shoalhaven Cancer Care Clinic to follow up in-patient consultations and provide support to the community palliative care team.
  • To participate in the Palliative Care after hours roster across ISLHD.

Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The Shoalhaven Cancer Care Centre (SCCC) opened in 2013 and provides essential cancer services for the growing South Coast population through every stage of the patient journey. David Berry Hospital provides rehabilitation and slow stream medical care. It also provides specialist palliative care for the Shoalhaven Region.
