About the role

 

Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for an Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) vacancy located in the Illawarra to provide an unprecedented opportunity to achieve high quality, safe, and efficient services.

 

The EDMS will report to the Chief Executive and will provide a particular focus on:

 

Leadership of the medical workforce and clinical services across all operational areas of the District, particularly within the Clinical Operations and Integrated Primary Health Care and Mental Health portfolios assisting respective Executive Directors with the effective and efficient operational management of the District's clinical services.

 

Strategic and operational oversight of the medical workforce unit, including accountability for the systems and processes for medical officer appointments, including staff specialists, visiting medial officers, clinical academics, conjoint appointments and junior medical officers.

 

Strategic oversight of all clinical governance matters, including leading patient safety and clinical excellence through the implementation of clinical quality and safety programs across the District.

 

Strategic and operational oversight of the District's clinical governance function, including quality, accreditation, medico-legal function, incident management, patient safety and high level expert advice to the Chief Executive.

 

Provision of high level expert advice to the Chief Executive on all medical workforce matters, including workforce professional development and professional competency.

 

The EDMS has a professional role in mentoring and advising Directors of Clinical Services on their professional performance.

 

Remuneration

 

Employment is offered in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.  A competitive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

We are seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Staff Specialists who enjoy practising Emergency Medicine in an environment with a high consultant clinical involvement and procedural workload. The successfull applicants will be located at either Shellharbour Hospital or Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital but may be required to work across the District at Wollongong and Milton Ulladulla Hospitals. Our District Emergency Departments see a combined total of nearly 150,000 patients per year. We have access to most specialities within our region, including general, trauma and sub-speciality surgery, general and sub-speciality medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and mental health.

 

Full time and part time positions will be considered.

 

Salary: $228.834 - $309,164 per annum (based on full time). 25% ED Physician Allowance may apply.

 

You will work 4 x 10hour shifts as a full-time worker and enjoy a good mix of acuity, pathology and paediatrics.

 

The ISLHD Emergency Departments are accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for a total of 24 months of advanced emergency registrar training. Further opportunities for teaching include medical students from the local University of Wollongong Graduate School of Medicine through to the ACEM Emergency Medicine Certificate and Diploma. We also offer simulation, research and service development opportunities via these resources.
