NSW Ambulance

Health Service Senior Executive Band 1

Lead the design and delivery of an innovative People and Culture strategy within this highly respected and valued organisation.

NSW Ambulance is one of the largest and most modern ambulance services in the world and is recognised as a global leader in its field.  It is a division of NSW Health and provides emergency and non-emergency clinical care, retrieval and specialist patient transport services to a population of over 7 million, delivered by its 4,500 staff through 300 locations across metropolitan and regional NSW.  Through its fleet of 1,500 road based vehicles, helicopter operations, fixed wing aircraft, off-road vehicles, snowmobiles and other bespoke rescue options, NSW Ambulance provides comprehensive rapid response services across a diverse range of scenarios and geographical locations.

It is a highly complex, geographically distributed organisation with significant multi-stakeholder involvement across its operations, both centrally and locally.  The workforce is highly committed, valued and respected and underpins the success of the organisation.  Due to a recent organisational restructure, NSW Ambulance is now seeking a high calibre, contemporary Director of People and Culture who will lead the design and delivery of an innovative People and Culture strategy which will support an engaged, inclusive and high performing workforce. This is a newly structured role and is critical to the future success of the organisation.  Reporting to the Chief Executive and leading a direct team of 6, plus a much larger distributed team, you will:

  • Work as a key member of the executive leadership team and drive a more agile, responsive, future focused and contemporary organisational culture;
  • Create and deliver a People and Culture strategy which is aligned to, and underpins, the strategic goals of NSW Ambulance as well as NSW Health;

  • Work closely with your IR team to deliver robust and sustainable industrial relations frameworks;

  • Lead a core program around the health, well-being and resilience of front line staff and embed this across all levels of the organisation;

  • Develop and implement strategies and programs which fully support staff, including recruitment, retention, and professional development;

  • Foster a workplace culture which is inclusive, collaborative, accountable, engaged and ultimately supports staff to deliver excellence.

To succeed in this role, you’ll possess a track record of HR leadership gained within a large, complex, customer focused, multi-site organisation, ideally with an industrial relations framework.  This experience may have been gained within the public or private sector and from a broad range of industries.  Critical to your success will be your demonstrable track record of leading transformative cultural change across an organisation.   You’ll be an outstanding communicator with excellent stakeholder skills and a natural ability to influence and engage at all levels.

This represents a unique opportunity to create and lead the delivery of a major cultural transformation program within this large, complex and important organisation.

NSW Ambulance values diversity and is committed to building an inclusive workplace culture that reflects the community it serves. We encourage applications from diverse community groups including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with a disability.
