Purpose of Position

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be based at Auburn and Westmead Hospitals within the Department of Plastic Surgery.


Successful applicants will be providing Medical and Surgical Services to the local community within Western Sydney Local Health District.


Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the Network for clinical matters.


Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Applications must be received by 5pm on the advertising closing date. 

Selection Criteria Registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and completed advanced training and obtained qualifications in both General Surgery and Plastic Surgery, and have worked at consultant level in Plastic Surgery.

At least 4 years of recent experience of working full-time in a tertiary level Plastic Surgery unit at a senior level.

Recent log book documentation of wide experience with a variety of microsurgical reconstructive techniques, particularly in the areas of head and neck oncology and breast reconstruction.

Documented experience with Maxillofacial trauma and the capacity to participate in the Maxillofacial trauma roster.

High level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.

Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice and be prepared to commit to teaching and supervision.

A strong research background, prepared to establish liaison with the research community in the WSLHD and to lead the plastic surgery department in clinical research projects.

Subspecialty interests in hand surgery and surgical oncology.
