Purpose of Position

The Team Leader of the Dementia Behaviour Assessment and Management Service (DBAMS) in consultation with the Nursing Unit Manager Yathong Lodge is responsible for the coordination, management, effective operation and strategic development of the DBAMS within the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (LHD). Specific areas of responsibility include: clinical service provision; incident management; financial management and human resource management. The Team Leader will be expected to provide clinical leadership, consultation and guidance to all members of the DBAMS clinical team. The incumbent will also be required to undertake clinical duties as a DBAMS Clinician in accordance with their relevant professional discipline. This will constitute the main focus of the position with approximately 12 hours per week dedicated to the Team Leader role (0.3FTE) and the remaining time dedicated to the provision of clinical services.    


The service provides consumer focused, evidence based best practice services to consumers over 65 years referred to the service with moderate to severe behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD). Families and carers of consumers also form part of the broader target group for the DBAMS. Capacity building work with other local services for the elderly is an important function of the DBAMS.  


Only employees of the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Southern NSW Local Health District and Southern Health Reform Transitional office are eligible to apply for this position.


This is a Permanent Full Time position and the classification is dependent on qualifications. This position is located in Wagga Wagga which belongs to the Murrumbidgee Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1. Tertiary qualifications in nursing, psychology, clinical psychology or other recognised qualification within the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award (i.e. social work, occupational therapy). Registration with AAPHRA or relevant body is required.

2. Demonstrated high level skills and experience in the provision of clinical leadership and management, including clinical, continuous quality improvement, clinical governance and human resource management.

3. Demonstrated high level skills in evidence based interventions for clients with dementia and/or mental illness and challenging behaviours.

4. Demonstrated understanding of current State and National Health policies pertinent to the provision of DBAMS and the potential impact of these policies at a service delivery level.

5. Demonstrated understanding of Clinical Governance as it relates to this role.

6. Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), with the capacity to negotiate complex issues relating to clinical and managerial issues.

7. Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances with the Health Service.

8. Evidence of a current Class C drivers licence.
