Purpose of Position

This role is to provide firstly a clinical management and consultation service to patients with conditions applicable to the sub-specialty of Otolaryngology Head And Neck Surgery and participate in an appropriate on-call roster for Central Coast Local Health District, secondly to provide education, supervision and support to junior medical staff, and thirdly to engage in ongoing quality assurance activities both at the Departmental and District Level and additionally as directed by the Director of Medical Services and the Director of Clinical Governance. These reflect the definition of services detailed within the Public Hospitals VMO Sessional Determination of 2007 (Sections 5(11). It is reinforced that the provision of on-call services are subject to Section 36(1l) of the Medical Practice Act 1992. This position is primarily located at Gosford Hospital, however clinicians are reminded that all clinicians are employed on an area basis.

 

Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgeon - Post Graduate Fellow Fixed Term Full Time


 


Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in Australia for the above position within the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Coast Local Health District (CCLHD). Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Visiting Medical Officers Award or to be approved by the College as substantially comparable. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months may be considered.


 


If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed. The position is expected to be paid under the Postgraduate Fellow classification of the Staff Specialists (State) Award. If the successful applicant seeks to engage in significant levels of private practice, consideration may be given on application to the applicant being paid as a Level 1 staff specialist with rights of private practice.


 


The successful applicant will join our Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery department in providing elective and emergency services at Gosford Hospital. Duties will include elective theatre lists, participation in an on call roster and consultations. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified practitioner to consolidate their Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery experience in a supportive collegiate environment. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Staff Specialists Award.

Selection Criteria • Applicants should have Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or specialist qualifications deemed substantially equivalent by the College, with appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Otolaryngology Head And Neck Surgery (Applicants expecting to be awarded their specialist qualifications within six months may be considered provided they do not need to complete College examination requirements. A separate position description is applicable for the period prior to the awarding of specialist qualifications)

• Holds appropriate medical indemnity cover

• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical officers, and published research as relevant to the position

• Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies

• Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment

• Medical practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia

• Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery
