The Aboriginal Health Worker (Traineeship) position has been established with a view to increasing and improving the retention of the Aboriginal Workforce in Western NSW LHD.  The trainee will work as part of the local community health team/hospital team to provide support, education and services to the local Aboriginal community, while gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to continue with a career in the primary health care setting.  A key focus of the position is to develop and implement initiatives in partnership with the community, agencies and stakeholders to reduce the burden of chronic diseases and lifestyle illness in the Aboriginal community; specifically ‘close the gap’ on Indigenous health disadvantage. The trainee will be required to attend formalised training and complete a Certificate IV in Aboriginal Health Work (Practice Stream)by attending 3 residential (block release) placements every semester to gain the nationally accredited qualification.
