Purpose of Position Three to six month term rotations through Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Liverpool, Concord, Campbelltown, Fairfield, Alice Springs and Westmead Kids Hospital. The terms available include ENT (3-6 month terms depending upon applicants interest, skills and experience) General Surgery, Relief, Neurosurgery, Nights, Urology, Colorectal, and Intensive Care. To provide effective surgical services to patients under supervision in a complex clinical environment. Responsibilities include • Co-ordinating the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to his her Unit within the Area Health Service, and ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical record. • The day-to-day assessment and management of the patients in his/her Unit, communicating with them and their family the nature of their condition and its treatment. • Communicating and co-ordinating care with their team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate, then arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community based care modalities. • All decisions concerning the patient(s) in consultation with their immediate supervisor.
  As this position is classified as a Medical Officer, all recruitment processes are coordinated by the facility Medical Administration Department. This position is Temporary Full Time up until 31/1/12 and is classified as a Registrar. This position is located within Sydney Local Health Network.
Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise

Evidence of continued professional development that is relevant to a career in surgery (such as completion of an enhanced anatomy course either during or after graduation, RACS based or other skills courses, evidence of a commitment to teaching undergraduate and post graduates

Commitment to the principles of patient safety and clinical quality improvement

MBBS or equivalent currently registered or eligible for registration in Australia. Minimum 2 years post graduate experience

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrates effective teamwork, time management and problem solving as part of a multidisciplinary clinical care team

Commitment and ability to participate in metropolitan and rural rotations of the network and participation in after-hours overtime and on-call work
