Purpose of Position

The CMO is primarily responsible for assessment and management of patients  presenting to the Emergency Department, with the skill set to be able to work in both ICU and Medicine; communication of assessment / management decisions to other staff involved in the patient's care, communication with the patient and / family regarding the patients condition and management plans, maintenance of accurate and relevant patient documentation, coordination of diagnostic tests and consultations, arrangement of patient discharge process and liaison with GPs and other community care services to ensure the provision of optimal patient care to patients presenting to Hornsby Hospital. This position provides a leadership role in the absence of an ED Consultant.

 

This position is Temporary Full-Time ending 03/02/2019 and is classified as a Career Medical Officer. Note that employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if the position cannot be filled on a permanent basis.

Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

At least 4 years full time equivalent post graduate experience with previous experience in Emergency Medicine, General Medicine and Intensive Care required.

Demonstrated relevant clinical practice at a high standard, commensurate to experience.

Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Recent completion of resuscitation training. Skills in arterial and central venous line placement, demonstrated by being accredited or having recently completed an ICU or HDU rotation. Primarily ED with a skill set to take on a senior role in the ICU or Medical Wards.

Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development. Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated understanding of the role of Clinical Governance within the Health System and provide an example of where you have seen it practiced.

Previous experience in training and supervising more junior doctors.
