Purpose of Position

Contribute to the coordination and delivery of comprehensive orthotic services to children, young people and adults who attend the Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH) and Prince of Wales hospital (POW) and the orthotics department.

Ensure an effective learning environment for all staff and students in regard to orthotic management.

Contribute to the planning and development of the orthotic department service, particularly in specific field of expertise.

The services provided will be evidence based as far as is possible and will contribute to the efficacy of medical treatments.

Relieve other relevant senior orthotists as required.

Ensure accurate data collection and analysis by the orthotics department to guide quality improvement activities and ensure accurate orthotic service data is submitted for the purposes of ABF and benchmarking.

Deliver a high quality clinical service based on established professional orthotic standards.

 

Sydney Children's Hospital is seeking a permanent full time grade 3 orthotist ($93,000 - $96,113). This is a rare opportunity to work for a large public department which provides a service to both adults and children, through two tertiary/ quaternary hospitals on one site – The Sydney Children’s Hospital, providing all aspects of children’s healthcare and The Prince of Wales Hospital, a large adult healthcare provider, with a state-wide spinal injury rehab service.

 

The department has a staff of 19, with an on-site manufacturing facility and excellent clinical and technical support, which will be expanding. We are lucky to have an advanced CADCAM system, with a 7 axis robot carver alongside our traditional plaster room.

 

The position is a senior role within the department and the successful applicant will have specialist skills in a specific clinical area or highly advanced generalist skills.

 

Selection criteria:

 

  1. A minimum of a bachelor of P&O providing eligibility for registration with the AOPA.
  2. Extensive post graduate experience with specialist skills developed in a particular clinical area within paediatrics or adults. Advanced skills in assessment, neurological lower limb management, gait assessment and evidence based intervention/ orthotic prescription and outcomes.
  3. Recognised source of expert knowledge in orthotic provision functioning as a clinical consultant with demonstrated advanced clinical reasoning skills
  4. Capacity to provide clinical supervision and support to other Orthotists, Orthotic students, technicians and support staff.
  5. Documented involvement in planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting on services including development of clinical innovations and initiatives. Evidence to show consumer engagement in continuous improvement activities would be viewed favourably.
  6. Willingness and capacity to support other clinical areas as required and demonstrated ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team.

 

Membership to the AOPA will be viewed favourably.

This position is Permanent Full Time and is classified as an Orthotist/Prosthetist Level 3.
