Purpose of Position

The Rehabilitation Technical Assistant is responsible for providing support and assistance to allied health staff in the paediatric rehabilitation department at Sydney Children's Hospital. The position will provide support for patients with acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury or other neurological impairment. The Rehabilitation Assistant will be responsible for implementing and/or assisting in treatment sessions, maintaining stock level as well as general tidiness and cleanliness in the rehabilitation department including the waiting area and office spaces.


The Rehabilitation Technical Assistant works in a motivated team of allied heath, nursing and medical professionals to help deliver rehabilitative care to children and young people. The position is well supported and supervised, with tasks varying from direct patient contact to general administrative duties that help maintain the operational function of a busy department.


This position is Permanent Full Time and is classified as a Technical Assistant Grade 1.

Selection Criteria 1. Demonstrated experience working with children and/or young people in a healthcare or hospital setting.

2. Understanding of the role of the various allied health and nursing professionals in a paediatric rehabilitation setting.

3. Awareness of acquired neurological disability and its impact on physical, cognitive, communication, emotional and social functioning.

4. Demonstrated ability to manage a busy workload with minimal supervision.

5. Excellent organisation and time management skills

6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

7. Good computer skills.

8. Completion of Allied Health Assistant Certificate preferred, but not essential.
