Purpose of Position

The primary focus and expertise of social workers is to provide psychosocial assessments, counselling and problem solving for patients and their families. The goal is to enhance the well being of those affected by trauma, illness and disability.

 

Social workers participate in policy development, research and teaching.

 

The services provided will be evidence based as far as is possible and will contribute to the efficacy of medical treatments.

 

Social workers are committed to social justice, equity and access.

 

A great opportunity to work families supporting them with a diagnosis of cancer and blood disorders.  The succesfful applicant will be working with the Kids Cancer Centre and the Social Work Department at Sydney Children's Hospital.

 

This position is Temporary Full Time up to 05/01/2018 and is classified as a Social Worker Level 1/2.

Selection Criteria 1. Tertiary qualifications in social work and eligibility for membership of the AASW

2. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in psych-social assessment and intervention with children, families and groups through previous employment as a social worker.

3. Previous employment as a social worker in a Hospital setting. Experience as a student on placement maybe considered.

4. Commitment to evidence based practice.

5. Demonstrated effective communication skills and a capacity to work in a health care team environment.

6. Capacity to share after hours and weekend on calls duties.

7. Current unrestricted driver’s licence.
