Purpose of Position

To provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive health services to Aboriginal clients and community, to improve health outcomes and better access to health services for Aboriginal people.

 

This is a Temporary Full Time position, working 38 hours per week until 7 August 2018, and classified as Aboriginal Health Worker. This position is located Queanbeyan which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1. Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (NB applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW) and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.

2. Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, historical contexts which may influence health and relevant Aboriginal Health and other national and state policies/strategies.

3. Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with Aboriginal individuals, families and communities and network with other services and health professionals.

4. Experience and knowledge of: confidentiality, documentation and information management, relevant legislation, ethics and duty of care and mandatory reporting requirements in an Aboriginal primary health care environment.

5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, sound written and oral communication skills.

6. Strong organisational skills, capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail, meet deadlines under pressure and take initiative where appropriate.

7. Demonstrated computer skills and ability to maintain client and program records, provide statistical data and reports to management as required.

8. Unrestricted Drivers Licence and ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.
