Purpose of Position

To manage the administration functions of the Cardiac Services department (including the Heart Centre for Children), ensuring high levels of customer service, timely, accurate and high quality administration and facilitating the smooth running of the department.




The Cardiac Services department at the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network is looking for an organised, personable, flexible Administration Manager to join our team.


This role is responsible for overseeing the administration functions of a busy department of 130 staff that diagnoses and treats over 5,500 patients per year.  This includes managing the administration team (approximately 10 staff), providing administrative support to the senior managers and general office management.


The ideal candidate will come with experience in medical administration (including patient-facing experience) and be someone who enjoys working in a very busy environment and taking initiative to constantly improve the way things are done to deliver better outcomes to patients and families.


This position is Permanent Full Time and is classified as an Administrative Officer Level 5.

Selection Criteria 1. Medical administration experience (within NSW Health would be advantageous), including using medical software and an understanding of how the Australian health system works.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including near-perfect grammar and spelling).

3. Demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise a busy workload, and to remain calm and productive under pressure.

4. High-level interpersonal skills. An ability to build rapport and to interact with a wide range of stakeholders (including difficult or upset people).

5. Administrative experience including creating documents and spreadsheets, writing professional letters, ordering/billing/invoicing, organising meetings and other office management functions.

6. Demonstrated ability to be proactive and take initiative. Please give an example.

7. Team management skills. (Experience preferred, but if you have not managed staff before, please give examples of skills that you have which would support your successful move into a management role.)
