Purpose of Position

The Health and Security Assistant will work as part of a team under the direction of the Support Services Manager, NUM or incharge of shift.


This role includes housekeeping, cleaning, manual handling, patient care and includes responding to any security risks identified by staff and asist in the protection of staff visitors and patients.  


The role may also be required to assist in the safe provision of care to patienrts under the supervision of nursing staff and responding to any urgent situations through the duress protocols.


Whilst not providing security services the person would carry out thier routine cleaning, housekeeping and general wardsperson duties as required.


In addition to any of the above can also be called upon to undertake and perform duties such as securing, watching, guarding and or protecting as directed, including responding to alarm signals and attendances.


The primary function of this classification is to assist with and where possible protect patients, clinical and non-clinical staff within the hospital. Staff performing the duties of this position will also be required to take instruction from the Nurse Unit Manager.


This is a Permanent Part-Time position, working 24 hours per week, and classified as Health and Security Assistant. This position is located in Bega and Pambula which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1.Physical capacity to perform the duties of the position including lifting, transferring and restraining patients.

2.Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, aggression management and the ability to communicate effectively with in a multidisciplinary organisation.

3.Able and willing to work to a 24 hour, 7 day roster.

4.Evidence of a current Class C driver's licence and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances within the Health Service.

5.Hold current NSW Security licence (Class 1A minimum) and the ability to maintain the security licence.

6.Demonstrated knowledge of responsibilities under Work Health and Safety Legislation, the Security Industry Act and the ability to read and follow instructions, policies, duty lists etc.
