Purpose of Position

The position of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Liaison Nurse (CAMHS inpatient Registered Nurse is employed by Southern NSW Local Health District in the Acute MHDA inpatient unit and functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Allied Health Staff and nurses to provide clinical mental health services to child and adolescent consumers, (and their parents/ guardians) with emotional problems, in addition to first episode mental illness.


This position focuses on assessment and management of children, adolescents and young people (18 yrs. and younger) with mental health presentations and first episode psychosis in the Acute care settings.  


The CAMHS Nurse will ensure that regular communication, consultation and collaboration occur with manager/s of relevant inpatient setting. (eg. Adolescent Mental health inpatient units, and community case managers)


In conjunction with the consumers health care needs, consideration must be given to the consumers’ ethnicity, culture, gender, spiritual values, sexuality, age, disability and economic and social factors as these may impact the consumers’ beliefs about health, illness and care implementation. The CAMHS Nurse must plan the care in consultation with the consumer addressing these values, support systems and home environment as all or any of these may impact on their health journey.


The CAMHS Nurse must show leadership in the coordination and delivery of health care needs, inclusive of appropriate referral to, and in consultation with, other relevant health professionals, service providers, and community and support services.


The CAMHS Nurse will assist in the provision of supervision for less experienced clinicians or students. Will maintain their professional development and work within mandated directives, standards, policies and procedures of the Health Service. 


This is a Permanent Full Time position, working 38 hours per week and classified as Registered Nurse. This position is located in Goulburn which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1.Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

2. Demonstrated experience in, and or knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved in caring for adolescents and young persons

3. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team in a rural health setting

4. Knowledge of and ability to work within a patient centred approach to nursing with a willingness to show leadership and embrace change in the coordination and delivery of care

5. Demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence based practice, and an understanding of current contemporary practices in regard to Child and adolescent Nursing

6. Demonstrated knowledge and recent experience in the clinical assessment of children and adolescents and young people with mental health issues, and supports provided to their families

7. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft computer systems , including email
