Purpose of Position

The primary objectives of this position are to:


• Work within the South Western Sydney Local Health District Harm Reduction Program to provide a range of primary health care services for the prevention and care of blood borne viruses among injecting drug users. This position will participate in service delivery across the South Western Sydney Local Health District Harm Reduction Program.
• Provide a range of harm reduction interventions for clients of the program, including needle syringe provision; health education; brief intervention and referral. The position may also be required to participate as a case worker function in the clinical service, on a needs basis.
• Contribute to, and participate in, community education and community development initiatives; health promotion projects; and initiatives to expand and diversify the Harm Reduction Program.

Selection Criteria Relevant health qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in working with injecting drug users in a range of harm reduction settings.

Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the harm reduction approach to illicit drug use.

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the range of health issues facing injecting drug users and the contemporary approaches to addressing these.

Understanding of and demonstrated experience in health promotion and project work.

Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, and work independently.

Demonstrated understanding of the primary health care approach to working with injecting drug users and experience in working within such settings.

Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills (including skills in computer use).

Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining a NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
This position requires a Working With Children Check (WWCC) issued by the Office of the Children's Guardian.
