Purpose of Position

 

Provide first-line medical care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department of the Hospital, including assessment, investigation, treatment and referral for ongoing non-inpatient care.


The role of the Career Medical Officer is to provide a high quality of clinical care to patients attending the Emergency Departments through their:



  • Ability to perform duties competently, efficiently and in a professional manner.

  • Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour.
  • Efficient organisational and time management skills.
  • Mature approach to interpersonal relationships.
  • Personal commitment to high standards of clinical care within the public system in general and to the principles and practice of contemporaneous emergency medicine in particular.
 

Selection Criteria General Medical registration in Australia Health Practitioners Regulatory Agency (AHPRA).

Extensive and recent demonstrated post graduate experience in Emergency Medicine (more than 4 years post-graduate experience including 2 years in Emergency Medicine).

Knowledge of contemporary clinical management and modern approaches in assessment and management of the broad range of acute conditions in emergency care.

Ability to deliver safe, high quality clinical care relatively independently along with competence in performing a range of minor urgent procedures commonly undertaken in the emergency department.

Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to work collaboratively and professionally in multi disciplinary departments and culturally diverse teams.

Willingness to teach medical students and other staff of the hospital when reasonably requested with demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, equal employment opportunity and Workplace Health Safety and Rehabilitation.

Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education relevant to area of practice and a willingness to commit to an equitable hospital on-call roster.
