Purpose of Position

The Visiting Medical Officer will provide clinical management and treatment for patients in a Murrumbidgee facility under their care. This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the LHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

 

At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina and Murray regions of New South Wales; across a geographic area of approximately 125,631 square kilometres.  With around 241,000 residents living within our District, we employ approximately 4,000 staff who work within our 31 hospitals and community facilities. 

 

Murrumbidgee LHD are seeking applications for the position of Visiting Medical Officer Ophthalmologist for the provision of Ophthalmology services at Deniliquin & Griffith Base Hospitals. We require our new Ophthalmologist to be an experienced VMO with a passion for providing quality services in a rural environment.

 

About Deniliquin District Hospital

Deniliquin District Hospital provides emergency, medical, surgical, and obstetric services.  Of the 45 beds, nine are day surgery, two obstetrics and two bassinets.  Deniliquin hospital is a hub site for surrounding smaller communities and provides a range of community, allied health and mental health/ drug and alcohol outreach services.

 

About Griffith Base Hospital

Griffith Base Hospital is a 117 bed C1 peer grouped  hospital providing a range of acute specialist services (both resident & visiting) including emergency medicine, general medicine,  surgery, paediatric medicine, oncology, obstetrics, intensive care, respiratory medicine, renal dialysis and rheumatology.  Each year there are approximately 19,500 emergency presentations, 2,500 operations and 540 births.

Selection Criteria Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists or other recognition in Ophthalmology as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973.

Sound clinical knowledge and operating experience in Ophthalmology demonstrated through successful clinical practice and evidence of competence in skills relevant to Australian rural hospital practice, including trauma and emergency scenarios.

Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement and peer review, patient safety and risk management equal employment opportunity and Occupational Health Safety and Rehabilitation.

Evidence, after full registration, of no less than five years in the practice of medicine in New South Wales Health System or in any other institution deemed by the LHD to be of equivalent standing inclusive of no less than three years in a supervised specialist training and/or experience

Evidence of a Medical qualification that is registerable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
