Purpose of Position	• Advocate on behalf of consumers (across the age span) of Murrumbidgee LHD. • The development of local networks that facilitate cooperation for mutual benefit in the Murrumbidgee LHD and its consumers across the age span. • Promote the concept of social inclusion • Promote the concept of “recovery’ to all levels of the health service. • Work to identify mental health consumers who do not utilise mental health services. • Assistance in the development and delivery of training programs to sustain and support consumers. • Actively participate in health promotion activities
	This is a Temporary Part Time position, working 24 hours per week until 28/07/2013, and classified as Health Education Officer, Non Graduate. This position is located in Deniliquin / Griffith and belongs to Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
Selection Criteria	1. Current or recent experience of being a consumer of a mental health service 2. A general understanding of the nature of mental illnesses and the experiences and difficulties faced by those with a mental illness, and their carers. 3. A general understanding of the nature of mental health service delivery, including some knowledge of State and national policies and directions for mental health services. 4. Good communication skills with the ability to communicate empathically and supportively with mental health service consumers, and effectively with mental health service providers. 5. Ability to work alongside mental health professionals in a non clinical role. 6. Ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve driving long distances within the health service. 7. Evidence of a current class C drivers licence.
