Dental Officer - Registrar (Special Needs Dentistry) #411726

Applications are sought from suitably qualified and experienced dentists (preferably with existing Australian Registration or are eligible for Australian registration with the Dental Board of Australia) for a role as a Registrar in Special Care Dentistry with the Department of Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Special Care Dentistry, Westmead Centre for Oral Health, Westmead Hospital.  The role is a training position in Special Needs Dentistry and entails the provision of dental care to patients with special needs, significant medical complexities and comorbidities, with an opportunity to gain experience in the provision of treatment under general anaesthesia, intravenous sedation and of in-patients.  Experience working in a general or tertiary-referral hospital is desirable. Acceptance as a candidate in the University of Sydney’s, Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry (Special Needs Dentistry) is essential.

It is a specialised sub- acute rehabilitation unit that caters for the following specialties; aged care, amputees, brain injury, neurology, orthopaedics, stroke, & surgical. The successful applicants will have the opportunity to work closely & within the rehabilitation multidisciplinary team to promote independence & confidence, while achieving patient goals. Educational support is offered at many different levels including ward, hospital, district, & externally.

The Merrylands, Specialist Mental Health Service for Older People (SMHSOP), Community Team is seeking Mental Health Clinician to join the innovative and dynamic team providing mental health services to our culturally diverse communities.

This is a 38-hours per week full-time position (1.0 FTE).

The SMHSOP Mental Health Clinician delivers quality mental health care to older people living in the Auburn/Holroyd and Parramatta/ Baulkham Hills LHD. The SMHSOP provides integrated assessment, intervention, and care coordination services for older people with psychiatric symptoms and/or dementia with persistently challenging behaviours in WSLHD.

The Merrylands SMHSOP Community Team is expanding to continue to provide an excellent assessment and management service for older people with mental health problems in the community in conjunction with the allied services such as Aged Care Assessment Teams (ACATs) and geriatric medicine.

A SMHSOP Mental Health Clinician is a health professional from a background of nursing, psychology, occupational therapy or social work.

The SMHSOP Mental Health Clinician will provide high quality psychiatric assessment and management for consumers of the service seen at the Merrylands Community Health Centre, at Residential Aged Care Facilities (RACF) and at their homes, as needed. As well as, to liaise with colleagues with SMHSOP and with allied services such as ACAT, geriatric medicine, non-government organisations and primary and community care to provide advice and support for older consumers with mental health problems and their carers.
