Purpose of Position

The Intensivist will advise on and provide direct clinical management of patients within the Bathurst Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as part of a cohesive team of Intensivists and with appropriate patients more generally and be part of an equitable after hours roster. The patients may be admitted under other clinicians so a sensitive advisory and where necessary interventional approach will be needed. This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the Western NSW Local Health District Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist (Intensivist) for the Intensive Care Unit at Bathurst Hospital.

The Intensivist will advise on and provide direct clinical management of patients within the Bathurst Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The patients may be admitted under other clinicians so a sensitive advisory and where necessary interventional approach will be needed.  This care will be provided within the scope of practice granted by the Western NSW Local Health District Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

The Intensivist will work closely with the Director of ICU and the clinical heads of the other hospital departments and will pursue networking with the District's main referral centre, Orange Health Service, and supportive relationships with other acute hospitals within the District.

We welcome applicants who:

  • Have current unconditional General and Specialist Medical Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Authority

  • Have evidence of formal qualifications in Intensive Care Medicine from an equivalent Health System. This would preferably but not essentially be Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM).

  • Are experienced in quality improvement and the pursuit of safe and effective patient- centred health care.

  • Have been successful in contributing to effective teams both with doctors and in the multidisciplinary context.

  • Are keen to contribute to service planning and policy development.

  • Have an interest in health research.

Selection Criteria 1) Australian citizen or permanent resident, or eligible for sponsorship as a permanent resident.

2) Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine and current specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

3) Demonstrated technical and professional competence as an Intensive care Physician, with clinical Hospital experience in Intensive Care Medicine in Australia within the last 2 years.

4) Demonstrated participation in, and commitment to, quality assurance activities relevant to the practice of Intensive Care Medicine.

5) Commitment to equitable participation in a hospital on-call roster.

6) Commitment to building world class, sustainable regional Intensive care services within the Western NSW LHD and demonstrated receptiveness to peer review with the ability to critically evaluate one’s own practice and change or evolve as required.

7) Commitment to minimising clinical variation and providing ICU care within the culture and operating policies of Bathurst ICU.
