Purpose of Position

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated medical officer with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. St Vincent's Hospital has 2x 6 month positions (Jan-Jun, July-Jan) for a Provisional Fellow -Pain and Rehabilitation Medicine. Applicants can apply for one of the terms or both. This unique position has dual accreditation for both the Faculty of Pain Medicine (ANZCA) and the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (RACP). 
The position is divided between the pain service and a pain/musculoskeletal /orthogeriatrics rehabilitation service. The Fellow will have access to tutorial programs in Pain Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine and will be providing service to the acute pain rounds, hospital pain consults and the chronic pain clinic. 

The Provisional Fellow will be supported by a resident and an intern in providing services to 12 inpatient rehabilitation beds for inpatients pain programs of those with orthopaedic/musculoskeletal conditions. The term has been designed to offer exposure to cancer pain and a dedicated 6 week period will also be spent in Palliative Care. 

The NSW Faculty of Rehabilitation medicine has approved trainees in rehabilitation medicine to apply for the position and if successful in securing a 6 month position can still apply in the general round of job offers for another rehabilitation term to complement the St Vincent's position. Pain medicine Provisional Fellows may also apply for the position as a 12 month term.

Selection Criteria Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia

MBBS or equivalent currently registered or eligible for Registration with the Medical Board of Australia

Two (2) years post graduation experience or more. Interest in pain medicine and multidisciplinary models of care.

Enrolled in vocational training for the Faculty of Pain Medicine and/or the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine

Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and computer skill.

Demonstrated teamwork, time management and problem solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team

Demonstrated commitment to self directed learning

Demonstrated abillity to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
