Purpose of Position

The role of the BreastScreen Medical Officer is to provide services to BreastScreen clients ensuring their well-being and to work closely with the clinical multidisciplinary team to achieve best clinical outcomes in line with the National Accreditation Standards of BreastScreen Australia.

Applications are invited from suitable qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within BreastScreen Northern Sydney and Central Coast and who have sound knowledge of breast diseases and breast cancer including an understanding of breast cancer screening and diagnosis.


BreastScreen conducts multi-disciplinary assessment clinics at our sites at Royal North Shore and Erina on the Central Coast. Radiologists, surgeons, radiographers and counsellors make up the multi-disciplinary assessment team.


BreastScreen Northern Sydney and Central Coast is one of the 8 Screening and Assessment Services (SASs) of BreastScreen NSW which are geographically spread across 14 Local Government Areas. BreastScreen NSW is part of BreastScreen Australia, a joint Commonwealth, State and Territory program with high quality standards.

Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Recognised specialist qualification, Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) / Specialist Registration in General Practice on AHPRA and / or other specialist recognition as provided for the NSW Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Specialty knowledge in breast disease diagnosis and management.

Experience in / or thorough understanding of breast cancer screening and the psychological impact on women with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Demonstrated commitment and experience with well women and women’s health.

Appropriate experience to practice as a Medical Practitioner in breast imaging, in particular interpretation of breast ultrasound and imaging guided biopsies and correlation of results.

Demonstrated commitment of quality service delivery and the ability to meet all aspects of BreastScreen NSW and the National Accreditation Standards.
