Purpose of Position

Director of Medical Services is a member of the Senior Cluster Management team/teams reporting to the General Manager and professionally to the Executive Director Medical Services and a member of the wider Local Health District Senior Management team.

 

Working closely with the General Manager and Director of Nursing and Midwifery to provide safe, effective and efficient patient care by high level medical administration input including management of clinical services, participation in clinical governance with a focus on medical workforce education and medical service management.

Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) extends from the NSW South Coast offering pristine beaches, the Southern Tablelands, across the Great Dividing Range and the Snowy Mountains with easy access to snow fields and surrounds the Australian Capital Territory.  SNSWLHD Hospitals and Community Health Centres provide a range of services including emergency, intensive care, coronary care, maternity, acute medical and surgical services, sub-acute, primary, community and mental health services.


 


About the role


Southern NSW Local Health District have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Medical Services.   Clinical duties may be included on application.


 


Director Medical Services Northern is responsible for coverage of:


Goulburn Health Service, Bourke Street Hospital, Crookwell Hospital, Yass Hospital and Queanbeyan Hospital.


 


Coverage of related community, primary health services and District Wide services will also be part of the Director Medical Services role.


 


The Director of Medical Services structured within the Clinical Operations Directorate is a senior member of the Senior Management team/teams reporting to the General Manager and professionally to the Executive Director of Medical Services.


 


Working closely with the General Manager and Director of Nursing and Midwifery to provide a safe, effective and efficient patient care in the provision of high level medical administration input, management of clinical services, participation in clinical governance with a focus on medical education, medical engagement and medical service management.


 


Remuneration


Employment is offered in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award or the Medical Superintendent (State) Award. Remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Selection Criteria Medical registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (APRHA)

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators or FRACMA trainee or equivalent

Evidence of a Class C Drivers Licence and the ability and the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may involve travelling long distances.

Demonstrated high level communication, consultation, negotiation and teamwork skills across the full range of stakeholders with demonstrated skills in leadership.

Superior understanding and high level of achievement concerning the development of contemporary medical management systems, policies and processes.

Demonstrated achievement concerning clinical governance activities with particular focus on improving systems concerning clinical outcomes; clinical audits; peer review; morbidity and mortality.

Track record in sound financial management including application of activity based funding to clinical and financial performance and achievement across a range of performance measures particularly ESAP and ETP targets.

Evidence of leadership concerning medical workforce development and planning including senior medical appointments and credentialing.
