Purpose of Position

To provide high quality diagnostic, consultative, procedural and on-call specialty services in Anatomical Pathology, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement and administrative activities commensurate with the Staff Specialists (State) Award. 


The Staff Specialist will ensure a high standard of professional performance and, where required, the encouragement of an academic environment which supports research and development.


Staff Specialist - Anatomical Pathology 

NSW Health Pathology – Liverpool Hospital and Secondary Hospital Facilities within the South West Sydney Area

Permanent Full Time (2.0 FTE*) 

*1.0 FTE: From November 2018 & 1.0 FTE: From 18 February 2019 


Candidates expecting to attain RCPA Fellowship within 6 months are welcome to apply, but will not be expected to commence duties until Fellowship is obtained.


This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in all aspects of Anatomical Pathology and Cytopathology and the ability to adapt practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice.

Willingness to further develop skills in subspecialties in Anatomical Pathology, such as renal, lung, lymph node, brain and liver biopsies.

Current medical practitioner, registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a specialist in Anatomical Pathology. Applicants expecting to obtain Fellowship within 6 months will be considered.

Demonstrated commitment to research, medical education and training.

Proven ability to work as a team member, have effective communication and interpersonal skills and adapt to work changes within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Demonstrated good or excellent personal qualities including leadership skills, strong motivation, initiative, effective time management and commitment to professional development.

Demonstrated commitment to the principles of clinical quality management and a contemporary knowledge of National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC) Standards and NATA accreditation processes.
