Purpose of Position

Position Summary:

We are seeking applications from a suitably qualified Specialist in Neurology and Movement Disorders to join the St Vincent’s Hospital Neurology Department. This position is for 0.5 FTE commencing November 1st 2018 

The successful applicant will have experience and expertise in Neurology with specific expertise in Movement Disorders in a teaching hospital environment.  


Clinical duties required include:

  • Provision of clinical services to patients designated as under your direct care, to outpatients and to patients you are asked to consult in Neurology;
  • Expertise in Movement disorders including device assisted therapies for Parkinson’s disease, deep brain stimulation and botulinum toxin therapy
  • Provision/facilitation of diagnostic neurology services, including EEG, EMG and/or NCS;
  • Participate in teaching and research duties;
  • Promotion of good patient care and the good reputation of the department and the hospital;
  • Participation in the on-call roster for the Department of Neurology


Applicants may be offered a conjoint University appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of New South Wales and/or University of Notre Dame. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship of the applicant and will be held only during the tenure of the St Vincent’s Hospital appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and St Vincent’s Hospital for clinical matters.

Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (MBA)

Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Neurology with expertise in clinical neurophysiology and neuromuscular ultrasound, commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position

Demonstrated commitment to teaching at specialty trainee and dvanced trainee, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels

Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience
