Purpose of Position

Position Summary:

 

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Psychiatry Staff Specialist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our Homeless Health Service & Community Mental Health Rehabilitation Service. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care to vulnerable inner city populations. This position provides psychiatric clinical leadership and supervision for the team, working in a community based setting. The team provides holistic mental and physical health care services assessment and treatment services to the homeless population of the inner city. The team consists of specialist mental health clinicians, general community health clinicians and works in partnership with other social welfare providers. The position is supported by a full-time psychiatry registrar and is also linked with the SVH community mental health team.

Selection Criteria Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and obtain a provider number from Medicare to practice

Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialist’s State Award

Demonstrated knowledge, skills and high standards of clinical practice in Mental Health commensurate to experience which is appropriate to the requirements of the position

Demonstrated experience in the psychiatric support of clients from marginalised populations, with a preference to experience with clients experiencing chronic homelessness

Demonstrated commitment to teaching at speciality registrar, junior medical officer and undergraduate levels

Demonstrated management ability in clinical service planning and the provision of a client focused, comprehensive, high quality and cost effective clinical service with knowledge and commitment to the implementation of best practice and clinical service innovation

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience
