Purpose of Position

 

Fixed Term up to 1.0FTE Postgraduate Fellow – Neurosurgical Fellow – Neurosurgery – Westmead Hospital – 2019 Clinical Year

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District.  The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Neurosurgery.


 


Objectives Include:



  1. Attend operating lists at Westmead Hospital to complete Neurosurgical cases.

  2. Education of patients about issues affecting their neurosurgical health and general surgical issues.

  3. Maintenance of treatment records for patients.

  4. Participate in the provision of Neurosurgical service elsewhere in the Hospital as/if/when required. This includes the review of patients post-operatively.

  5. Participate in quality assurance activities within the Department Clinical audits, including collection of clinical indicators as/when required.


Participate in the tuition of medical undergraduates and postgraduates in Neurosurgery. This involves clinical tuition and teaching within the Department.


 


Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the District for clinical matters


 


Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District.


 


The position will be for a period of 12 months, commencing in the 2019 Clinical Year (4 February 2019).

Selection Criteria Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.



Evidence of Continuing Medical Education and self-monitoring/audit practices that support credentialing to the position and are commensurate with the scope of practice requirements of the position

Sound clinical knowledge in Neurosurgery demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.

Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including: High level interpersonal and communication skills; Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team; Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice and; Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.

Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department
