Purpose of Position

Position Summary:

A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Research Officer with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high quality patient centred care. The successful applicant(s) will be expected to be able to work on the differentiation of human haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) and T cell regeneration following HSC transplant.


Our focus is on normal and malignant adult stem cell biology with an emphasis on translational research. A strong background and a proven record in R&D or publications would be an advantage. The position is available for 12 months with the possibility of renewal. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with qualification and experience.


The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only.

Selection Criteria Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia

A post-graduate degree in biological science or medical science and is an Australian citizen or permanent resident or holder of a current Australian work visa.

Research laboratory experience in human HSC (including cell culture) and immunology (including flow cytometry). Skills in molecular biology (cloning, viral transfection and mutagenesis) and animal model desirable.

Experience with data management and analysis, and a proven track record in scientific publications and presentations.

Effective communication (written & oral), time management, negotiation, interpersonal skills and demonstrated self-motivation ability and ability to be flexible and adapt work practices to suit circumstances

Accurate record keeping and experience maintaining laboratory documentation, equipment and stocks.

Immunisation history complies with NSW Health Policy Directive 2007_006.
