Position Summary

The St Vincent’s Hospital Urology Department provides service for Urological disorders to the community. Urologists at St Vincent’s provide specialist expertise in the management of genito-urinary cases using state of the art laser, minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques.

The successful applicant will provide three half day elective operating sessions per month primarily to public patients, noting that the number of allocated sessions available may vary over time depending upon resources available, strategic priorities and clinical demand. The successful applicant must work to ensure the numbers of elective waiting list patients do not exceed the National and State waiting time benchmarks or exceed the capacity of the contractually agreed theatre time availability to undertake the wait list cases, in accordance with NSW Health Policy.

Clinical duties include participation in the General Urology on-call roster and the provision of consultative and elective surgery services to patients who present and / or are admitted to/from the Emergency Department. The approximate rate for on-call is one in five.

Postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in Urology is expected.

The successful applicant will be involved in revamping all aspects of urological care in the Department. St Vincent’s has a consultant led hospital program including cadaveric and living related procedures and the successful applicant is expected to take part in this program.

The Urology Department is looking to revitalise outpatients services as well as streamline and improve operating efficiency. You will be expected to play a significant role in achieving this goal to enhance inpatient and outpatient care.

Selection Criteria Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia

Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and obtain a provider number from Medicare to practice

Possess Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) based on Specialist training in Urology, as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997.

Experience and expertise in clinical practice in Urology in a teaching hospital environment.

Completion of advanced training in minimally invasive surgery, preferably in a formal post- FRACS training position or similar.

Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes.

Demonstrated ability to provide high quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient satisfaction and experience

Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment.
