Purpose of Position

The position being offered is part-time, and provides an opportunity for a motivated and experienced Child & Family Health Nurse to join a new team establishing a Level 2 Family Care Centre service in Queanbeyan for families experiencing early parenting difficulties living across the local health district. The service will have a focus on building parenting confidence and positive parent-child relationships, and providing support to parents experiencing a broad range of challenges in the early years of their child’s life. The successful applicant will provide centre-based and home-based consultations, and facilitation of group programs. There will also be the opportunity for additional training to support the provision of an Extended Home Visiting program for families experiencing complex issues. 

This position will be involved in the provision of quality Child and Family Health services to families caring for children 0-3 years of age within a Tresillian service. This will be achieved by working within the Tresillian Model of Care, Practice Principles and the NSW Health Professional Practice Framework for Child and Family Health Nursing (CFHN). The CFHN will use a strengths-based and wellness focus, building on parental confidence and skills through the provision of information, education, resources, guidance and role modelling safe responsive care. The CFHN, utilising evidence-based screening and assessment tools, uses their family partnership skills to identify health variations or family vulnerabilities in order to negotiate individual care pathways and discharge pathways to meet the goals of the family.

Selection Criteria - Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia
- Postgraduate /post registration qualifications in Child and Family Health or working towards.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, evidence based practice.
- Demonstrated experience in attending to the physical, social and emotional needs of children, and their families.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of population health and primary health care.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles and skills of working in partnership and the principles that underpin NSW Safestart, within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication and negotiation skills, including computer literacy.
- Current NSW Drivers Licence Class C.
