Purpose of Position

The CNS2 Diabetes Educator is responsible for providing excellence in diabetes care, education and support to clients and their carers.


The CNS2 Diabetes Educator also provides expert professional support and education for nurses/midwives,medical and allied health professionals in relation to diabetes care in accordance with district /hospital and nursing/midwifery philosophy policies and procedures.


The CNS/CMS Grade 2 role criteria is distinguished from a CNS/CMS Grade 1 by the following additional role characteristics:

  • Exercises extended autonomy of decision making
  • Exercises professional knowledge and judgement in providing complex care requiring advanced clinical skills and undertakes one of the following role:

-         Leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice and service delivery in  

           the ward/service; or

-         Specialist clinical practice across a small or medium sized health facility/sector/service; or

-         Primary case management of a complete episode of care; or primary case management of a

          continuum of specialty care involving both inpatient and community based services; or

-         An authorised extended role within the scope of Registered Nurse/Midwife practice.

Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2, Diabetes Educator, Permanent Full Time, 38hrs per week, Monday to Friday

Selection Criteria Registered Nurse Division 1 with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Post registration qualifications in Diabetes Education (Accredited by ADEA) with a minimum of three (3) years experience working in Diabetes Education

Credentialed Diabetes Educator (CDE)

Demonstrated advances skills in diabetes management and education

Demonstrated skills to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Highly developed written and verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal and problem solving capabilities

Demonstrated computer skills i.e. for presentations, databases etc.
