Purpose of Position
  • Pathology Collection demands have remained constant with the urgency for increasing patient flow through the Hospitals. Efficient collection services will increase patient care / treatment and flow; leading to a high level of patient care, decreased hospital costs and increased bed availability.
  • The Collector is responsible for providing competent, effective and safe collection of Pathology specimens exercising quality patient care. They are accountable for their own actions and must adhere to the Policies and Procedures within the department whilst performing their duties.
  • This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy.
  • To participate in the Collection service roster which covers 24/hrs, 7 day/week, 365(6) days/year.
 

NSW Health Pathology is seeking to appoint two permanent part time Pathology Collectors to join their team.

 

The successful candidates will have provide competent and safe collections of pathology specimens exercising patient care. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, be available to participate in a 24/7 rotating roster and have attention to detail.

 

This position rotates within the service units of Bankstown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Campbelltown, Camden Hospital and Oran Park Collection room.

 

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time, temporary and casual vacancies.

 

Please Note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

Selection Criteria Certificate III in Pathology Collection Practices and/or demonstrated extensive venepuncture experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver efficient and effective services.

Willingness and ability to participate in a 24/7 rotating roster as per organisational/department requirements.

Demonstrated competency in the use of computers and laboratory information systems (LIS).

Current unencumbered Class C drivers licence with the ability and willingness to travel to other Sydney South West Pathology sites as required.
