Purpose of Position

Perform venepunctures on inpatients and outpatients and be proficient in the registration and pre-analytical preparation of pathology samples. In addition, the incumbent of this position will be required to perform home collections as well as work across other departments within NSW Health Pathology.

 

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination Against Specified Diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.

 

An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time, temporary and casual vacancies.

 

This position is a permanent position. To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency. Employment of a temporary visa holder will only occur if there is no suitable local applicant.

Selection Criteria Demonstrated skills and experience of blood collection in a hospital or private pathology environment.

Demonstrated experience and understanding of medical terminology.

Ability to work weekdays and weekends as well as some evenings on a roster basis, independently as and when required.

Ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and manage mulitiple tasks.

Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy when focusing on the customer.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with staff and members of the public, as well as a friendly telephone manner.

Demonstrated ability to contribute positively to a small team with a strong work ethic.

A NSW unencumbered driver's licence and the willingness to perform home collections.
