Purpose of Position
  • The technical officer will participate in a Seven day rotating roster - involving evening, weekend and on call work.
  • Assist in the provision of laboratory servies to NSW Health Pathology customers.
  • Apply technical knowledge to work safely and methodically, with high attention to detail.
  • Other duties as directed by the department manager and senior staff.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.


An eligibility list will be created for future permanent part time, temporary and casual vacancies.


To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.


Selection Criteria Completed studies with a minimum of a Pathology Technicians Certificate for a Technical Officer or other qualifications deemed appropriate by the employer.

Demonstrated experience working in a Pathology laboratory with skills at least two of the following disciplines - Biochemistry, Haematology Transfusion and Pre Analytical.

Working knowledge of laboratory information systems (eg Auslab, AMS, Eblood) and Microsoft Office applications.

Experience with provision of an excellent service to customers.

Demonstrated ability to work accurately and unsupervised, pay attention to detail and use initiative on all shifts.

Well organised with the ability to problem solve and multi-task.

High level of interpersonal skills including developed verbal and written communication, negotiation, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.

Understanding of pathology quality system and accreditation requirements.
