Purpose of Position

The Biomedical Engineering department provides a high quality medical technology support service to clinical staff in their use of medical devices to monitor, diagnose or treat patients.


It’s objective is to provide safe, effective, reliable, and well maintained medical devices for patient care throughout the facilities, or other entities which the department has an entered into an agreement to provide support services.


The Biomedical Systems Specialist (BSS) is a technical specialists who has extensive experience in the integration of medical devices into corporate IT systems, front line support for corporate IT systems, as well as the troubleshooting and maintenance of medical devices.


The BSS will provide support to the Operating Suite in their use of the Digital Operating Theatre system, electronic real time patient flow management systems and displays, audio visual systems, as well as assisting in the commissioning, calibration, preventive and corrective maintenance of medical devices and their associated systems.


In addition the BSS will be required to set up and operate specific medical devices as part of clinical procedures.

Selection Criteria Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Biomedical – Electronic) recognised by Engineers Australia OR Advanced Diploma in Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)

Extensive experience in the troubleshooting of IT networks and systems

Extensive experience in the repair, maintenance and testing of electronic medical devices

Demonstrated understanding of key IT-related challenges or constraints faced by clinicians in the delivery of clinical care

Ability to assess priorities and manage competing tasks in a time critical environment

Experience in the use of computer based asset management systems

Knowledge of Australian Standards pertaining to medical devices and Information Technology systems

Ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders and a commitment to a high standard of service delivery
