Registered Nurse

  • To provide comprehensive clinical mental health services to people with a mental illness or mental disorder that is least intrusive, collaborative, recovery oriented, nominated carer and family responsive and inclusive, rehabilitative, encourages self advocacy, facilitates empowerment and capacity for optimal independent function and utilises evidence-based practice interventions.
  • Work with the Mental Health Service to enhance the cultural sensitivity and accessibility of the service for Aboriginal people.

Improve the capacity of service providers to provide culturally sensitive and appropriate responses to the Aboriginal population.

  • This position provides an exciting opportunity for a Counsellor, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Psychologist or Registered Nurse to work in the Lithgow Community Mental Health team
  • The successful applicant will provide recovery oriented mental health services to consumers of the Lithgow LGA and work in a multidisciplinary team and travel to semi-rural areas.

Selection Criteria 1.Tertiary qualifications in either Social Worker (where degree provides eligibility for membership for Australian Association of Social Workers)-Counselling (including eligibility for membership of relevant professional body)- Occupational Therapist and registered with AHPRA- Psychology and registered with AHPRA or Registered Nurse Division 1 with AHPRA registration including completion of a new graduate RN program or 12 months experience working as a Registered Nurse

2.Demonstrated skills in mental health and discipline specific assessments and interventions and experience working with people with mental health issues.

3.Demonstrated ability to collaborate meaningfully with consumers and carers with a commitment and understanding of recovery principles in mental health service provision

4.Demonstrated excellent communication skills including verbal, written, good interpersonal skills and computer competence and literacy.

5.Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative partnerships with a range of service providers to tailor care plans and enhance the cultural sensitivity of service provision

6.Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal mental health and wellbeing principles and practice improvement.

7.Demonstrated working knowledge of NSW Mental Health Act, 2007.

8.Current unrestricted NSW driver’s licence (P1 or above) and willingness to use same for work purposes.
