Purpose of Position

The Clinical Nurse Consultant provides expert clinical advice to patients, carers and other health care professionals within the specialty area of Spina Bifida and other congenital spinal cord conditions / neural tube defects (NTDs).  The Clinical Nurse Consultant develops, facilitates implementation and evaluates care management plans for patients with NTDs by providing leadership that facilitates the ongoing development of clinical practice. Within the role the CNC initiates and utilises findings of research in the provision of clinical services, contributes to the development and delivery of specialty related education programs and participates in formal processes for the strategic and operational planning for the clinical service. The role involves the delivery of a specialist consultant service (including continence and wound management) and ambulatory care model within the multi-disciplinary Spina Bifida service of which the CNC is a member. This might also involve delivering similar duties in the Spinal Cord Injury and Disease (SCID) service in case of absence of the SCID service Clinical Nurse Consultant.

 

 

This position is Temporary Full Time up to 26/01/2018 and is classified as a Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 1.

Selection Criteria 1. Registered Nurse with a current Licence to practice from Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and minimum five years full time equivalent post qualification experience.

2. Relevant approved post registration qualification in field of practice or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.

3. Proven clinical leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.

4. Demonstrated high level communication and inter-personal skills.

5. Demonstrated participation in the development of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based research.

6. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.

7. Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, competency in the use of contemporary information systems.

8. Ability to apply clinical expertise in consultancy with children and families, with the ability to work independently.
