Purpose of Position

Western Sydney Local Health District provides two major drug and alcohol diversion programs: the NSW Adult Drug Court and the Magistrates Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) Program. The position of Drug & Alcohol Professional is responsible for the provision of a range of drug and alcohol clinical services including assessment, case management, counselling, and group work for clients referred via the MERIT and Drug Court Program.  This includes the co-ordination of services with other Drug and Alcohol, health and community services.  The provision of these services will be at The Centre for Addiction Medicine (CAM) Cumberland and Mt Druitt CAM.

 

An opportunity exists in a challenging role within the Drug Health Forensic Team working with court mandated clients of the MERIT and Drug Court programs.

 

This team is currently located at North Parramatta, this position is permanent full time, working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm.

This position is permanent full time, working 38 hours per week with a classification dependent on qualifications (Social Worker Level 1/Level 2, Counsellor Level 1/Level 2 and Psychologist).

 

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.

Selection Criteria 1. Minimum Bachelor Degree in Counselling or related field; or current Psychologist registration with APHRA.

2. Demonstrated clinical experience in the provision of evidence based interventions for alcohol and other drug using clients.

3. Demonstrated experience in the provision of assessment and case management for alcohol and other drug using clients

4. An ability to liaise with a range of relevant agencies and departments of the Local Health District and the Criminal Justice System.

5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multi- disciplinary team in providing drug and alcohol services to court mandated clients.

6. Proven high quality written and verbal communication skills, especially in preparation of court reports and clinical documentation.

7. Good negotiation and problem solving skills.

8. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
