Purpose of Position

The registered midwife is responsible and accountable for the provision of woman centred, evidence-based midwifery care and is expected to embrace practice development principles in partnership with women and families in the delivery of that care.

 

Care will be provided in a quality framework and promote positive birthing outcomes. The midwife will assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care in collaboration with women, families and the multidisciplinary health care team using a contemporary midwifery model.  

 

Care will be planned giving consideration to ethnicity, culture, gender, spiritual values, sexuality, age, disability and economic and social factors in consultation with the woman and family as all or any of these may impact on the mothers and baby’s health journey.

 

The midwife must show leadership in the coordination and delivery of health counselling and education to woman, family and community, inclusive of pregnancy care education and enabling new parents towards parenthood. This will include appropriate referral to, consultation with, other relevant health professionals, service providers, and community and support services.

 

The Midwife will embrace change and will provide supervision and support for less experienced clinicians or students. Will maintain their professional development and work within mandated directives, standards, policies and procedures of the Health Service

This is a Permanent Part Time position, working up to 32 hours per week, and classified as Registered Midwife. These positions are located in Bega which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1. Registered Midwives with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

2. Demonstrated competencies in and or knowledge of the complexities and challenges involved in caring for a woman and her baby during pregnancy labour, birth and postpartum period

3. Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team in a rural health setting

4. Knowledge of and ability to work within a woman centered framework for maternity care with a willingness to show leadership and embrace change in the coordination and provision of midwifery care

5. Demonstrated commitment to professional development, evidence based practice and an understanding of recent contemporary changes in models of midwifery care

6. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of nursing scope of practice, delegation and supervision of self and others

7. Proven ability to recognise and manage determinants of patient safety and positively contribute to a culture of excellence in patient and carer experience

8. Demonstrated capacity in undertaking organisational quality and risk management activities that contribute to but not limited to National accreditation and work health and safety
