Purpose of Position

The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for the provision of high level patient centred, evidence-based clinical nursing care and is expected to embrace and lead a practice development philosophy in the delivery of that care.

 

This outcome will be achieved through undertaking comprehensive nursing assessments, providing expert nursing care planning , advice, consultation and educational support to patients/clients and family in his/her area of clinical speciality practice through coaching methodology to upskill and train more generalist staff.

 

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will be responsible for evaluation, supervision and provision of complex speciality nursing care while providing a high level of professional leadership and autonomous clinical practice

 

 The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work within a multidisciplinary team environment, show leadership/clinical expertise in his/her field and act as a professional role model for less experienced staff in keeping with the primary health care model

 

The Clinical Nurse Specialist will work collaboratively with the LHD Clinical Nurse Consultant, the Program Coordinator, General Practice, managers and other health professionals in the provision of palliative care to clients, and their carers.

 

 

This is a Permanent Part-Time position, working 19 hours per week, and classified as Clinical Nurse Specialist, Grade 2. This position is located in Moruya, Batemans Bay and Narooma which belong to Southern NSW Local Health District.  

 

There may be an oppurtunity for the successful applicant to work up to 38 hours per week as Registered Nurse and Shift work will apply if applicant requires full-time work.

Selection Criteria 1. Current authority to practice as a Registered Nurse /Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and demonstrated ability to actively contribute to the development of clinical practice in Palliative care


2. Relevant post-registration qualifications with (at least) three years experience working in the clinical area of palliative care nursing.

3. Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making capabilities and leadership in the development of nursing specialty clinical practice advancement and service delivery.

4. Demonstrated ability to provide direct clinical care, including assessment and care planning at an extended role level in Palliative care nursing.

5. Commitment to contribute to own and the teams professional development, to act as a resource person and mentor to others within the speciality.

6. Demonstrated ability to exercise professional knowledge and judgement in meeting complex care requirements including assessment and care planning, of patients/clients with a life limiting illness and their carers.

7. Demonstrated awareness of current NSW Ministry of Health policies and guidelines and of national and state standards relating to palliative care.

8. Current drivers licence and willingness to travel for work purposes. This may include distance travel across the health service
