Joining the Maternity and Women’s Health Division
The Division of Maternity and Women’s Health was established in 2016 in order to provide a stronger focus on the unique needs of patients and clients as well as the specific strategic and operational needs of the services. The Division of Maternity and Women’s Health provides antenatal, birthing and postnatal services to women and babies throughout the District. It provides inpatient services within our Hospitals together with community based midwifery services and is committed to delivering women and family-centred care. Currently the Division is focused on improving the service for both patients and the staff that support it by reviewing models of care, rostering and workplace patterns and workplace culture.

The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is part of NSW Health servicing over 400,000 residents across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 7,500 across eight hospital sites and community health services.

The role is across Wollongong, Shoalhaven and Milton so I would not focus on Wollongong alone. Maybe insert the following:

There are three Hubs within the District. The Hubs are in line with the Health Care Services Plan 2012-2022. Hubs provide clinical services, generally acute services and outpatient services. Each hub includes a hub hospital and two smaller hospitals that may have a special focus area.
Hubs operationalise the delivery of health care services to the community.

Clinical Divisions and Hubs  have Service Level Agreements outlining the requirements, targets and expectations for the Divisions.
The Hubs are:

  • Northern Illawarra Hub – Wollongong, Bulli and Coledale Hospitals.
  • Southern Illawarra Hub – Shellharbour and Port Kembla Hospitals.
  • Shoalhaven Hub – Shoalhaven District Memorial, David Berry and Milton Ulladulla Hospitals.

Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching facility and has 561 overnight beds. It provides antenatal, birthing and postnatal services to women and babies including inpatient services and our well regarded community based midwifery services (Midwifery Group Practice). Last year 2,613 babies were born at the Hospital with that number expected to increase with the areas growing population.

Wollongong Hospital is located in the heart of the City of Wollongong, which is located an hour south of Sydney and is nestled between the mountains and the sea offering the best of city living with the relaxation of the coast.

Currently Australia’s 10th largest city, it is regarded as Australia’s ‘most liveable’ regional city sitting beneath the spectacular Illawarra Escarpment on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, bordered by the Royal National Park to the north and Lake Illawarra to the South.
