Purpose of Position

To promote a culture of learning and inquiry which actively encourages and facilitates

the clinical and professional development of nurses working with neonates in Grace

Centre for Newborn Care (GCNC). To work in partnership with the senior nursing and

medical team in GCNC and the wider hospital team, to plan and facilitate education

programs to provide best practice for and to improve the outcomes of sick neonates.

To provide orientation, mandatory training and assessment, competency

development in basic and advanced nursing skills, speciality education and generic

professional development for nurses in GCNC. To collaborate with others to provide

speciality related education to nurses both within the hospital, the College of Nursing

and tertiary institutions and provide educational consultancy, support, career advice,

leadership and mentoring of nursing staff.

 

The Grace Centre for Newborn Care (GCNC) provides a statewide service for newborn care through the Perinatal Services Network caring for sick newborn infants requiring multidisciplinary care, cardiac and surgical treatment, or the management of complex medical disorders. The centre incorporates a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit & a Neonatal High Dependency Unit (Extended Care) and provides an individualized developmentally supportive model of care for the babies and families.

 

GCNC is currently seeking a permanent part time Nurse educator (0.63 FTE) to join the nursing education team, and help to promote a culture of learning and inquiry which actively encourages and facilitates the clinical and professional development of nurses working with neonates at the centre. The NE will work in partnership with the senior nursing and medical team in GCNC and the wider hospital team, to plan and facilitate education programs to provide best practice for and to improve the outcomes of sick neonates. The role will involve providing orientation, mandatory training and assessment, competency development in basic and advanced nursing skills, speciality education and generic professional development for nurses in GCNC. The NE will also be called upon to collaborate with others to provide speciality related education to nurses both within the hospital, the College of Nursing and tertiary institutions and provide educational consultancy, support, career advice, leadership and mentoring of nursing staff.

 

This position is Permanent Part Time working 24 hours per week and is classified as a Nurse Educator Grade 2.

Selection Criteria 1. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse.

2. Relevant experience working within a paediatric context of care within neonatology and relevant post graduate qualifications in education or equivalent.

3. Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate education programs for nurses in paediatrics and adolescents within the portfolio of responsibility.

4. Demonstrated effective leadership skills including the ability to communicate, negotiate and problem solve.

5. Demonstrated evidence of the provision of relevant education material and programs that incorporate the use of adult learning principles.

6. Evidence of being professionally active within the specialty area of paediatrics & adolescents demonstrating self motivation along with competence in managing competing priorities to deliver quality outcomes.

7. Evidence of preparation of written submissions and reports, and demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office, Powerpoint presentations and the internet.
