Purpose of Position

The Clinical Nurse Educator provides clinical training and development while fostering a preceptor/mentor role; formulating and delivering educational programs; assessment and demonstration of clinical procedures at the ward/unit level.


This position will support staff by the use of a participation methodology to build:

  • Capacity of individuals to deliver safe, knowledge based care using a variety of educational tools and development methods such as but not limited to reflective practice, practice development, critical thinking, mentor/preceptor and adult learning concepts to support improvements in clinical practice.
  • A patient focused learning culture that fosters clinical practice innovation and has a knowledge base that is contemporary and supported by evidence
  • A proactive ward/unit workforce team that is receptive to changing models of care and clinical practice.

This is a Permanent Part-Time position, working 20 hours per week, and classified as Clinical Nurse Educator. This position is located in Pambula which belongs to Southern NSW Local Health District.

Selection Criteria 1. Current Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Agency (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse with relevant post registration clinical or education qualifications and/or at least 3 years recent clinical or education experience relevant to the area of nursing practice.

2. Demonstrated experience as a preceptor/mentor/coacher with the proven ability to use contemporary education and teaching methods to develop and motivate staff towards a learning culture.

3. Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and policy requirements that govern nursing practice with knowledge of ANMC and Speciality Competencies related to the field.

4. Demonstrated high level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.

5. Demonstrated ability to deliver and evaluate education and learning activities to meet individual learning needs using adult learning principles.

6. Demonstrated skills in developing and teaching new approaches to practice that link evidence to improved patient outcomes.

7. Proven ability to recognise and manage determinants of patient safety and positively contribute to a culture of excellence in patient and carer experience

8. Demonstrated capacity in meeting organisational quality and risk management requirements including but not limited to national accreditation, work health and safety
