Purpose of Position

To work with the pharmacy team to provide the best possible pharmacy service. The Pharmacy Intern will participate in training and acquire experience in all areas of the pharmacy department. Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist the intern will participate in clinical pharmacy, dispensing, distribution, non-sterile and sterile manufacturing, patient counselling and provision of drug information.

The pharmacist intern position is a 12 month temporary position in which a pharmacy graduate from either a Bachelor or Masters course (or equivalent qualification) gains the necessary skills and experience to satisfy the requirements for registration as a Pharmacist in Australia. The position

contributes to optimum patient care by undertakiung the functions of a pharmacist within the scope and responsibilities of an intern pharmacist and within the framework of services provided by the Wollongong hospital department of pharmacy

 

 

The opportunity exists for a Pharmacy Intern to join the dynamic Pharmacy Department at Wollongong Hospital. Interns rotate between clinical and service areas of the hospital. Wollongong Hospital provides a comprehensive range of clinical services to the residents of the Illawarra Area Health service. Selection Criteria 1. Successfully completed Bachelor or Master of Pharmacy and eligible to be enrolled
in an Intern Training Program to qualify for registration in Australia after completion of
mandatory and supervised training.

2. Good knowledge of pharmacology and the ability to apply this knowledge to
practical situations.

3. Effective verbal and written communication skills including medication counselling to
enable a patient to safely and effectively administer medicines

4. Demonstrated initiative and the ability to problem solve and prioritise

5. Ability to work effectively as an individual or as a member of a team.

6. Good understanding of the role of the Hospital Pharmacist in achieving good
healthcare outcomes particularly in a rural setting

7. Experience as either a pharmacy assistant or technician in a hospital or community pharmacy
