Purpose of Position
  • Provide and support the development of ENT Services to patients of the Richmond Network in support of the Clinical Services Plan for the Clinical Network.
  • Provide a comprehensive ENT Surgery Service to Lismore Base Hospital including elective and emergency surgery, consultation regarding admitted and Emergency Department patients at Lismore Base Hospital.
  • There is an expectation that the Surgeon will perform lower acuity elective surgery at Ballina District Hospital and Casino Hospital for short-stay and day only cases.
  • Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice consistent with the teaching role of the Lismore Base Hospital

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced ENT Surgeon to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.

 

The position will be primarily located at Lismore Base Hospital, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position with the Ear, Nose, Throat service at Lismore Base Hospital in NNSWLHD.

 

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and/ or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award). Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.  If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed

 

The position requires a good working knowledge and experience in current ENT care. The duties involve the provision of both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Lismore Base Hospital and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

 

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

 

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

 

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award).

Selection Criteria Specialist Registration as a ENT Surgeon with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian college of Surgeons and/or other specialist recognition as provided for under the Health Insurance Act 1973.

Ability to participate in an on call roster as required by the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Demonstrated recent experience in providing an extensive ENT service in a public hospital setting with ability to provide a full rebateable service to inpatients and outpatients.

Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively as part of a team and provide leadership of a team with commitment to teaching and continuing education.

Knowledge and evidence of applying quality improvement in the clinical environment.
