Purpose of Position
  • Contribute effectively to the timely processing of patient samples in Clinical Chemistry.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of instrumentation, methods and QC results.
  • Provide a professional service to the Department and its clients.

NSW Health Pathology is currently seeking to appoint a temporary full time Technical Officer to work within its Clinical Chemistry laboratory at Liverpool.


The successful candidate will have experience in the operation of clinical chemistry instrumentation, have experience working within a team and unsupervised and will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. All new recruits must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. New recruits must provide evidence against specified diseases and comply with the requirements of this policy at their own cost prior to appointment.


An eligibility list will be created for future temporary and casual vacancies. 

Selection Criteria Minimum Diploma in Laboratory Technology or other equivalent qualification with Pathology based subjects deemed appropriate by the employer. Overseas qualifications must be accompanied by full NOOSR or AIMS assessment at the time of application.

Demonstrated experience in the operation of Clinical Chemistry instrumentation, including high-throughput chemistry and immunoassay analysers, blood gas instruments, small discrete analysers, and manual laboratory techniques.

Demonstrated experience working in a laboratory for extended periods with minimal/no supervision, with the ability to operate a number of analysers at the same time.

A demonstrated understanding of laboratory Quality Control concepts, and the ability to monitor, interpret and manage QC results and problems.

Demonstrated experience with PC hardware and software, including Laboratory Information Systems.

Proven experience in analyser and method troubleshooting and problem resolution.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to deliver efficient and effective services.

Ability, willingness and availability to participate in any of the laboratory’s shifts as and when required.
