Purpose of Position
  • Perform reception duties including data entry.
  • Process specimens for the Laboratory and for despatch.
  • Provide assistance to scientific staff in the performance of tests and procedures as allocated by the work roster. Work variable shifts including weekends and public holidays.
  • To perform specimen processing, reception desk duties, data entry and provide assistance to Laboratory staff in day to day operation of laboratory as designated by the Senior Hospital Scientist in charge.
  • The position involves working a seven day rotating roster with variable shifts. Weekend and public holiday work may be required.

The position is located at the Campbelltown laboratory, however, the incumbent may be required to work at other pathology services within the SSWPS Network.


NSW Health Pathology is currently seeking to appoint a Permanent Full Time Technical Assistant to work in the Specimen Reception Department at their Campbelltown Laboratory.


The successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks including; specimen reception, data entry, preparing transfer lists all whilst maintaining a customer focussed attitude.

This is a Category A position. All Category A applicants must read and understand Policy Directive PD2011_005 Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination against specified diseases. Selection Criteria Demonstrated experience in specimen reception and processing.

Knowledge of Pathology terminology.

Demonstrated experience in pathology laboratory techniques.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Sound interpersonal skills with demonstrated commitment to teamwork and a customer focussed attitude.

Computer literacy and Data Entry experience.

Demonstrated attention to detail and organisational skills with the ability to plan and prioritise work load to meet set deadlines.
